Edinburgh-based Accounting, VAT & Tax Specialists

Based at 11 Alva Street in Edinburgh’s West End, we work with business owners, sole traders, landlords, and individuals across Scotland who want more from their accountant than an annual tax return. From tax planning and self assessment to bookkeeping, VAT, and company accounts, we handle the financial side so you can focus on everything else. Our work doesn’t stop at filing. We look at the full picture – spotting gaps, identifying allowances you might be missing, and helping you structure your finances in a way that protects what you’ve built and keeps more money where it belongs: with you.

Client reviews

What our clients say

Since using their services I have made tax-efficient investments, resolved long-standing tax admin issues, and have saved thousands in the process. It has really changed my view of accountants for the better.

Mark

James was a breath of fresh air after being terrified half daft by extremely dry accountants at large firms for years. Within 10 minutes he put my mind at ease with his relaxed demeanour and deeply comprehensive understanding of all things tax.

Ruairidh

Anderson and Edwards have been brilliant. They are responsive, keen to help and brilliant at explaining tax and accounting jargon. I absolutely recommend them.

Common Questions From New Clients

Most clients are up and running within a couple of weeks. We handle the professional clearance process and handover with your previous accountant directly, which is something we are very experienced in. Your previous accountant should be able to send over everything we need, helping to make the switch straightforward and easy for you.

You can switch at any point in the year with no impact on your tax position.

We work with businesses and individuals across Scotland. Most of our client work is handled remotely where it suits, and we are always happy to meet in person at our Edinburgh office on Alva Street when that is more useful.

If your current accountant files your returns and you rarely hear from them otherwise, you are probably paying for compliance and nothing else. We are proactive by design, which means we are looking at your tax position, your structure and your long term financial picture year round, not just at year end.

Yes. We look after both together, which is where the real planning opportunities tend to sit. How you pay yourself, how you structure your business and how you plan for the future are all connected. Treating them separately usually means missing something.

We work with sole traders, limited companies and everything in between. Size matters less than mindset. Our clients are people who want to understand their finances properly and make good decisions with them, not just stay compliant.

We are a small firm, and are structured like a big one, allowing us to deal with more complex matters. James specialises in tax, Dean in accounts and financial matters for businesses, and Iain in VAT. You get the right person for your situation every time.

As part of the onboarding process, we’ll take time to understand your financial matters properly so we can give you the right support from the start.

This includes our compliance and due diligence checks, which help us build a fuller picture of your circumstances and ensure everything is set up correctly. We may ask you to provide certain documents or paperwork, including information required for anti-money laundering checks and professional clearance.

Once we have everything we need, we’ll handle the setup and handover process as smoothly as possible, keeping things clear and straightforward throughout.
